About Me
Inês A. T. Almeida is a researcher with background in Psychology, Neurosciences, recently moving to Meta-research. *EDUCATION* She has a PhD in Health Sciences - Biomedical Sciences (2014) (Faculty of Medicine, University of Coimbra). Before, she completed a licentiate (5 years) degree in Psychology (2006), specialization in Psychological Assessment, Counselling, and Rehabilitation (Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences, University of Coimbra). The last year comprised training activities: work with neurological disorder patients in implicit and explicit memory projects, combining neuropsychological and experimental psychology components. *RESEARCH ACTIVITIES* After the PhD, she became a postdoctoral researcher at the Institute for Biomedical Imaging and Life Sciences (IBILI), Faculty of Medicine, University of Coimbra, working in the areas of social cognition, decision-making and reward, developing experimental paradigms (neuroeconomic games), using behaviour and brain imaging measures (fMRI). She has also collaborated in projects and studies in Eating disorders, Usher syndrome, and Emotion regulation through neurofeedback. From December 2018 to May 2024, she worked as a junior researcher at the Faculty of Medicine, being a member of the R&D unit Coimbra Institute for Biomedical Imaging and Translational Research (CIBIT), ICNAS. She studied the modulatory role of context in decision-making, developing her own research line on how affective states inform the decision process, using psychological and neuroscientific perspectives/tools to contribute towards both basic (knowledge about biological/behavioural mechanisms of decision) and applied (social challenges: sustainability and pro-environmental behaviour; mental health and disease) science. More recently (June 2024) she integrated an ERA Chair project, EXCELScIOR, at the Center for Neuroscience and Cell Biology (CNC), part of the R&D unit Centre for Innovative Biomedicine and Biotechnology (CiBB), to implement the field of meta-research in the University of Coimbra, to make science more efficient through better use of research data, more reliable through better verification and more transparent (open) and responsive to societal challenges and needs. *OPEN SCIENCE ACTIVITIES* She has invested in Open Science, training and practices (Eurodoc Open Science Ambassador training; International Network of Open Science & Open Scholarship Communities Incubator Program) to bring open science practices to own research but also contributing to training programs at the Univ Coimbra (Portugal) through an Open Science Community Coimbra. She coordinated the Eurodoc proposal to the UNESCO Recommendation on Open Science. *RESEARCH COLLABORATIONS* She collaborates as team member in studies and projects concerning music and emotions, affect, and depression. She coordinated the University of Coimbra team for data acquisition in the crowdsourcing international COVID-19 Rapid-Response project (Psychological Science Accelerator, 2020-2023) to disentangle behavioural intentions and the affective impact of the pandemics. *RESEARCH(ERS) CAREERS AND ASSESSMENT* She was involved in initiatives such as the PostDocs@UC, Portuguese Association of Grant Holders (ABIC) and the European Council of Junior and Early Career Researchers (Eurodoc), producing policy recommendations, working towards better scientific practices and employment conditions for researchers, institutionally, nationally and across Europe. *RESEARCH PRODUCTION* She has several research outputs, including publications, posters, oral communications, datasets, preprints, protocols and preregistrations. Moreover, she has further contributed to the research ecosystem with coordination and participation in science communication and outreach activities (e.g., Brain Awareness Week, European Researchers Night, PT DGES Science Club at School), lectures, peer review activities (Scientific Reports; Frontiers; CABN), and participation in evaluation panels for activities of technical and scientific nature promoted by international entities (COST – European Cooperation on Science and Technology; GWIS – Graduate Women in Science).
