PhD Andre Dionisio Rocha is currently an Assistant Professor at the Department of Electrical Engineering of the NOVA University of Lisbon and a senior researcher at the Centre of Technology and Systems (CTS) of UNINOVA Institute. He received his MSc (2013) and PhD (2018) in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the NOVA University of Lisbon. During his career, he explored the design of Cyber-Physical Production Systems and the study of Smart Manufacturing solutions using Distributed Control Systems, Modular Production Systems and Artificial Intelligence solutions to deliver more cost-effective and sustainable solutions. Industry 4.0 is nowadays a trend and a topic with an impact scientifically and society in general. In recent years, he worked on several European and national funding research projects that allowed him to explore different requirements and applications of such systems with universities, research centres, and companies well-known in the topic. Moreover, he coordinated work packages and tasks in all the projects as well as teams of researchers. Within the research group where he works, and more recently, he was in the coordination team of three projects (one European and two national projects). All these responsibilities helped him develop new skills and capabilities essential for such an interdisciplinary and heterogeneous field due to the different areas of research, as well as the different cultures and customs you can find in this field of work. These new skills allow him to understand how people work and how it is crucial to achieving a shared understanding and vision before and during work. As a result of his research, several articles in relevant international journals in the area and two book chapters were submitted. Most of those journals belong to the first quartile. Moreover, he published more than 30 articles presented at international conferences, all with peer revision. Most papers were submitted and presented at IEEE conferences with a high rate of rejections and a significant impact on the topic. During his career, IEEE had and still has a crucial role in most conferences where he submitted his work under the organisation and sponsorship of the IEEE. Besides that, he worked in the Working Group from IEEE P2660.1, contributing to the creation of a new standard, and he is currently working in three new Working Groups (P805.1, P805.2, P805.3). He is also a member of three of technical committees from IEEE (Technical Committee on Industrial Agents, Technical Committee on Industrial Cyber-Physical Systems, and Technical Committee on Intelligent Industrial Systems). During the last few years, because of the developments in the projects and networking through the attendance of industrial events, he was invited to speak about the fourth industrial revolution and how this new era will impact companies and the market. Those presentations occurred at industry events, such as fairs and product presentations. His intimate relationship with the industry started with those activities.
