About Me
Igor Bdikin graduated in Physics from the Physics Department of the Kazan State University in 1989 and completed a PhD degree in Solid State Physics from the Institute of Solid State Physics, Russia in 1999. - From 1999 to 2003 he worked in the Laboratory of Structural Research of the Institute of Solid State Physics, Russia as a researcher. He found a new X-ray diffraction (XRD) effect in diffuse scattering taking place in defected crystals and dynamical XRD effects in high-temperature superconductors and heavy metal single crystals. He developed new XRD methods for determinate orientations of tilted epitaxial films. - From 2003 to 2009 he worked in CICECO (Department of Ceramics and Glass Engineering, University of Aveiro, Portugal) as a postdoctoral fellow. During that time he has investigated of domain structures, switching processes in ferroelectrics crystals, ceramics, films, fibers and composites by Piezoresponse force microscopy (PFM). Using local PFM methods he first time found: surface piezoelecricity in pure SrTiO3, induced piezoelectricity in (LaSr)MnO3 system, stimulated piezoelectricity in lipide/PVDF films, ferroelectricity in amino acids and nucleobase microcrystals etc. He is using the atomic force microscopy methods for investigations electromechanical, electrical, dielectrics, mechanical, magnetic local properties of multiferroics, relaxors, composites, quantum dots and biology (living cells) materials. - Since 2009 he is employed as a researcher in the Centre for Mechanical Technology Automation (TEMA) in the University of Aveiro, Portugal with more focus on mechanical (nanoinentation) and electrical properties of piezoelectrics and carbon systems (diamond films, carbone nanotubes, graphene). As results his scientific activity and collaborations with research groups in Aveiro and others Portugal Universities, research centers and industrial companies in the world Igor Bdikin published over 250 papers in international peer review journals with over 5000 citations, 5 book chapters and more 30 proceedings of the international conferences. 3 papers were published in major (>9.5) multidisciplinary scientific journals including ACS Nano and Advanced Functional Materials. His h-index is 36. Igor Bdikin established his own group in the Centre for Mechanical Technology Automation, Mechanical Engineering Department, University of Aveiro comprising 3 investigators including 1 Post-Docs and 2 PhD students.
